Can't get much fiercer with Natasha Poly, Anja Rubik and Isabeli Fontana all in one hot video.

Walk This Way

This is for those of you who missed Thierry Mugler's fashion show yesterday featuring Lady Gaga. Overall, I was impressed with the collection: elongated silhouettes, sheer panels and sky-scaper heels to the extent where one model nearly falls.Thierry Mugler sure knows how to make monotone colours look good and he has truly outdone himself yet again.
Also, on the note of this fashion show, Gaga definitely deserves a standing ovation after that confident strut down the runway in those 10 inch, perhaps even bigger heels - even Naomi Campbell couldn't walk the walk back in the 90s!

Iris van Herpen

Dutch designer, Iris van Herpen is a talent to watch out for with her avant-garde take on fashion. In 2006, Herpen graduated from the ArtEZ Institute of Arts in Arnhem where she later completed internships at Claudy Jongstra, Amsterdam and Alexander McQueen, London.
Viewing her collections, there is a clear link that the late Alexander McQueen has influenced Herpen in her cutting edge creations which can be seen throughout her work. Iris van Herpen is about innovation and her latest collection, "Escapism Couture" shows what 'Couture' should really be about: dreams/visions.  Not only is this her second three dimensional printed collection after "Crystallization", but her digital fantasies have been made into reality, constantly challenging the boundaries between art and fashion.  Iris van Herpen's work mingles nature's beauty of wild bird shapes and clouds alongside ominous, dark, heavy looking armour which surprisingly works well together. The majority of her creations scream spiral formations, interlocking weaves and metallic colours although, Herpen proves that she is still capable of designing more wearable garments for her viewers by sticking to a minimalistic look.

"For me, fashion is an expression of art that is very closely related to me and to my body. I see it as my expression of identity combined with desire, moods and cultural setting.
In all my work I try to make clear that fashion is an artistic expression, showing and wearing art, and not just a functional and devoid of content or commercial tool. With my work I intend to show that fashion can certainly have an added value to the world,  that it is timeless and that its consumption can be less important then its beginning. Wearing clothing can create a very exciting and imperative form of self-expression. 'Form follows function'  is not a slogan with which I concur. On the contrary, I find that forms complement and change the body and thus the emotion. Movement, so essential to and in the body, is just as important in my work. By bringing form, structure and  materials together in a new manner, I try to suggest and realize optimal tension and movement.”

Boys of Milan

One of my all time favourite bloggers is Tommy Ton, founder of the Jak&Jil blog. Instead of focusing on the whole body where the clothes can actually get lost in translation amongst the models, I love how he focuses on the actual clothes, detailing and the accessories. His latest blog post, where he has collaborated with Justin Wu on the video "Boys of Milan" was a post that I just had to share seeming as attractive men and fashion is possibly the best combination ever, don't you think?!

P.s. hopefully I will have photos up of the Matiko shoes I received soon..

The lingering smell, the smoke blowing into my face and the health issues related to smoking has always been a turn off but for some reason, these women seem to make it acceptable..

Shao-Yen Chen: Waver/Skin

Centrefold_s

The sheer number of talented young graduates churned out from Central Saint Martins (thanks to Louise Wilson) never ceases to amaze me and Shao-Yen Chen, one of the knitwear graduates is certainly no exception.
There is no doubt that one of the key elements for success in such a competitive industry is innovation and his arduous experimentation has certainly paid off well. Using fine nylon threads, he creates volume packed onto cashmere and lycra where the delicate white strands are shaved into a bulbous formation which I find peculiar, yet harmonic.
What I enjoy of Shao-Yen's masterpieces is that he knows how to prevent his work from entering laughable territory. The density, the shape, the need to create curves; he knows how to make it work and I truly admire the thought and skill needed to pull off such a distinctive concept.
Shaoyen_pop

Chen's second collection "Skin" which can be seen as more of a continuation of his first collection "Waver" introduces leather as a new material in addition to subtle hints of nude and blue.
This collection is a lot more wearable and playful and the overall volume has been reduced dramatically allowing the girl to flaunt her figure instead of being cocooned inside a heavy structure. Although the shaven shapes are still present, I find they highlight specific areas of the body on the dresses which can be seen below.

Urban Outfitters: Vintage Denim Cut Out Shirt

Back in November, I posted two images of of Hanneli Mustaparta wearing double denim. What caught my eye was her vintage denim cut out shirt and I am happy to announce (with many thanks to luluandyourmom for tweeting her latest buy) that blog readers can now purchase their own from Urban Outfitters!
It is pretty much an exact replica of Hanneli's with the exception of a slight variation in colour seeming as it's from the urban renewal section.
It costs $48.00 (approx. £30) and because it's the american website, international shipping fees do apply.
I personally think it is a good investment especially for next season!

Click here for a direct link to the site.
(Readers from the EU or any other country except from US need to click on the American Flag!)
